Our Mission

Our mission at 55 Thai Kitchen is to help the communities that we’ve become a part of. We believe that giving back should start locally and we have made that a top priority through school donations, discounts for students, first responders, and military service members.

Our motto ‘Thai Food For the Community’ serves as a reminder to give back and we pledge to keep our Thai food affordable, healthy, & creative for all to enjoy.

The story of 55 Thai Kitchen begins with our Head Chef, Vijit Pipatkhajonchai or “Jit” for short. His family owned a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand where he worked since he was only 15 years old. It was there that he began to develop his palate and love for cooking. 25 years and 9 different restaurants later of mastering his craft, Jit created 55 Thai Kitchen with our first location in the back of a liquor store in Golden Hill. What began as a passion project quickly grew into the restaurants that are open now. Over time, he found his other business partners: Vijitra Pipatkhajonchai (his daughter), Supap Promson, Kiel Stitzell, and Ben Methakul who share the same values and goals for 55.

Since its inception, 55’s mission has been to give back to the San Diego community and the underprivileged youth in Thailand; that’s the meaning behind our motto “Thai Food for the Community”. We’ll always work hard to provide San Diego with high-quality Thai food, while still being affordable. Thanks for reading!
